Museo Regional de Michoacán Dr. Nicolás León Calderón

The Regional Museum is housed in a beautiful and majestic Baroque building that was constructed between 1705 and 1775.

The building's facade is made of carved stone, and its windows and doors are framed with beautiful lintels. From its balconies on the second floor, you can appreciate the Cathedral and the Main Square.

The courtyard is surrounded by arcades and has a fountain in the center. Between each of the arches, there are gargoyles that function to collect rainwater. The monumental staircase stands out, featuring a hanging arch with the museum's logo.

Its collection is distributed across 12 rooms. One of them is dedicated to the ecology of Michoacán, and five others cover the history of the state, from pre-Hispanic times to the Cardenismo era, including the colonial period, independence, the reform movement, and the Porfiriato.

Notable exhibits include early colonial codices and the painting known as "El Traslado de las Monjas," dating back to 1738, which represents a historical, sociological, and ethnographic testimony.

The walls of the staircase feature a large mural by the master Alfredo Zalce, and the corridors on the upper floor display paintings by Federico Cantú, Grace Greenwood, and others.

Guided tours are available, and there is an auditorium where conferences related to regional history take place.
