Museo Regional de Antropología e Historia (Palacio Cantón)

The Regional Museum of Anthropology is housed in a completely restored mansion from the Porfiriato period.

The museum offers an extensive exhibition of pre-Hispanic artifacts.

The building itself is an attraction for its grandeur and the materials used in its construction, such as various types of marble and plasterwork, as well as beautiful Ionic and Doric columns. The elegant staircase carved in white marble stands out.

It has fourteen rooms displaying diverse collections of Maya culture. The first room's walls feature lithographs by the English explorer Frederick Catherwood.

Another room showcases the region's early settlers, and this exhibition is considered one of the most comprehensive. It highlights the remains found in the Loltún cave.

The following rooms describe the social evolution of the Maya, their tools, techniques, and advancements, such as astronomy, codices, ceramics, and more. This exhibition includes a Chac-Mool from Chichén Itzá.

Additionally, the museum regularly presents temporary exhibitions related to the country's historical heritage.

The museum offers video projections and an interesting store with a selection of books, gifts, jewelry and reproductions of archaeological pieces.
