Museo Regional de Antropología Carlos Pellicer Cámara
The Anthropology Museum is house in a three levels building with a mezzanine, and ground floor. It is considered one of the best museums in the southeast of the country.
The tour begins in the Prehistory Room, which provides an overview of the settlement of the American continent, approximately 33,000 years BC. It also exhibits a map of Mesoamerica showing the cultures that inhabited the area and their evolution in the Preclassic, Classic, and Postclassic periods. This area also displays vessels and figurines mainly related to their religious activities.
Another section is dedicated to the Olmec and Maya cultures, showcasing vessels, necklaces, ear ornaments, yokes, funerary masks, monoliths, and objects made of stone. There are also representative pieces from all of Mesoamerica.
It features a room for monumental pieces, highlighting the colossal head with the millennial smile of a young Olmec, an auditorium, a temporary exhibition hall, a video library, and a specialized library in archaeology, with a collection of over 3,000 books.
The museum also has a 70-seat auditorium, a library, a newspaper archive, a video library, a photo library, and a bookstore.
