San Fernando Pantheon Museum
This place was once part of an 18th-century convent and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Mexico City, dating back to the early 19th century.
It houses the remains of important figures from Mexican history such as Viceroys Matías Gálvez and Bernardo de Gálvez, Vicente Guerrero, Ignacio Comonfort, José Joaquín Herrera, Martín Carrera, Benito Juárez, Margarita Maza, Santiago Xicoténcatl, Francisco Zarco, Miguel Miramón, and Tomás Mejía, among others.
During the tour, you can appreciate the impressive tombs with their unique funerary art.
Of course, it also holds many stories of ghosts, love, and terror, including that of Dolores Escalante, the partner of the founder of the National Library, José María la Fragua. Tragically, she died of cholera in 1850 just before their wedding, and it is said that her ghost wanders the place at night.
Another peculiarity is the empty tomb of Isadora Duncan, which was commissioned to be built by Plutarco Elías Calles, who was in love with her.
It offers guided tours and temporary exhibitions.
