Dolores Olmedo Museum
It occupies the main house of the former La Noria Hacienda, a building dating back to the 16th century, with an area of 32,000 square meters.
This place has an interesting history, as it was where Apochquiyauhtzin, the last Xochimilca king, settled. His grandson and heir, Martín Cortés Zerón y Alvarado, was baptized by the Xochimilco Chief Pedro de Alvarado himself. In this area, he was known as the "Indian Cacique or Lord of Many Lands." He was one of the main and devoted protectors of the indigenous people in the area.
The museum's collection consists of 139 works by muralist and painter Diego Rivera, 25 works by Frida Kahlo, 43 creations by Angelina Beloff, as well as an extensive and valuable collection of over 600 pre-Hispanic pieces from various cultures in the country, furniture and objects from the colonial period, and a unique collection of folk art pieces, including ceramics, glassware, Judas figures, masks, and lacquers.
The museum is surrounded by an ecological space where more than 20 species of Mexican trees and plants are preserved, along with animals such as peacocks, geese, ducks, turkeys, and Xoloitzcuintle dogs.
