Museo de Paleontología de Guadalajara
The Paleontology Museum museum displays a vast collection of fossils found in the western region of Mexico.
Most of the pieces come from Lake Chapala and the beaches of Zacoalco.
The exhibition mainly focuses on mammals from the Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleistocene epochs. It showcases fragments of antelopes, horses, canids, pumas, saber-toothed tigers, mammoths, among others. One of the highlights is the Lake Gonfoterio found in Chapala, one of the most complete skeletons of this proboscidean in the world, with a replica on display at the museum.
The museum has a geology pavilion that exhibits one of the most comprehensive collections of rocks and minerals in the country.
There is a temporary exhibition hall, workshops, courses, and an auditorium for screenings of documentaries, plays, and lectures.
