Museo de la Ciudad de Cholula, “La Casa del Caballero Águila” (Museum)
The Cholula City Museum is housed in a building dating back to the late 16th century located in the center of San Pedro Cholula.
The ground floor is the oldest part, as the upper floor was built in the 17th century, with its ornamentation added later. Nevertheless, having preserved almost intact the section built in the 16th century, it is one of the oldest buildings in the city.
In the pre-Hispanic era, the Eagle Knights represented the most prestigious military order, and at the entrance of the building, there are two stone reliefs depicting them. These ornaments combine with Plateresque motifs, giving the façade a peculiar character.
The museum has six rooms that house over 2,300 pieces from the pre-Hispanic and colonial eras, as well as various photographs depicting Cholula's traditions. Additionally, there is a room for temporary exhibitions.
Visitors can also visit the restoration laboratory to appreciate the work that goes into each piece before being included in the exhibition.
In addition to this fascinating museum, Cholula has several churches that you shouldn't miss. To learn more, download the Puebla Tourist Guide.
