It was owned by the Hoeffer family for decades.
It is one of the best-preserved Porfirian buildings in the city, still featuring original elements such as a floor brought from Spain, ceilings manufactured in Germany, and oil paintings embellishing its walls in the central courtyard.
The building reflects the French influence characteristic of the Porfiriato era and currently houses the Museum of Popular and Indigenous Cultures of Sonora.
It is also known as Casa Hoeffer as it was originally owned by Dr. Alberto Hoeffer. The building reflects the French influence characteristic of the Porfiriato era.
The museum has five permanent exhibition rooms and an area for temporary exhibits. The permanent rooms showcase the way of life of the ethnic groups inhabiting the state of Sonora. Life-sized and miniature representations of different types of dwellings constructed by various tribes, as well as traditional attire, are displayed.
