Museo de Arte Virreinal, Casa Humboldt
It is a construction dating back to the second half of the 18th century and belonged to Don Antonio de Villanueva.
Initially known as Casa Villanueva or del Hospital, but when the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt visited Taxco and stayed in this house, it came to be known as Casa Humboldt.
It has a beautiful baroque facade decorated with an arabesque design influenced by Arabic styles.
Inside, the magnificent arrangement of courtyards, rooms, and a small but beautiful garden stands out.
Currently, it houses the Museum of Viceregal Art divided into 14 halls that narrate the history of the city, including its mining period and the construction of Santa Prisca.
Among its exhibits, it features magnificent pieces of sacred art found in Santa Prisca, including one of the two funerary tombs in the Americas and pieces of Baroque art.
