It is the birthplace of Diego María Rivera Barrientos, one of Mexico's greatest muralists.

The museum's collection is primarily formed by the collection of Engineer Marte R. Gómez, regularly exhibiting around 100 original works by Master Diego Rivera, including lithographs, portraits, watercolors, painting sketches, and drawings.

One of the permanent exhibition rooms has been arranged to recreate the artist's living quarters during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
