Misión de San Ignacio de Kada-Kaaman

The first building was made of adobe with a roof of tule.

Founded in 1728 in the Cochimí region of Kadakaamang, which means 'Reed Stream,' by the Jesuit father Juan Bautista Luyando, amidst a beautiful oasis.

Later, the mission was entrusted to Fathers Sebastián de Sistiaga and Fernando Consag and became the most flourishing in the peninsula. Father Bautista Luyando even built eight chapels in the surrounding rancherías, and with the help of Father Helen from the Mission of Our Lady of Guadalupe Huasinapí, they created highly productive orchards and plantations that managed to feed the entire region.

Father Luyando also built dams and a shelter for the natives living in the rancherías, where he established a parish school teaching crafts.

In 1733, Father Consag began the construction of the mission church, which still stands today, and it was completed by the Dominican father Juan Crisóstomo Gómez in 1786.
