It was built in 1759 in a distinct Plateresque style.

It was constructed by Joaquín Del Moral, who wanted to build a chapel on the outskirts of Tehuacán, featuring the 12 Stations of the Cross and other important points such as San Francisco and El Carmen.

It is a beautiful, elegant, and well-designed construction. However, this church never had a regular parish priest nor housed any religious order, so it fell into disuse. In 1864, a strong earthquake left it in ruins, which is why it is known as the Ruins of Calvary.
