Ex Hacienda San Juan Bautista
Just 20 minutes from Taxco, there is a peculiar medieval-style construction, the Ex Hacienda San Juan Bautista.
This building dates back to 1543, and its ruins seem to blend with the surrounding hills. It is believed that the construction was ordered by the conquistador Hernán Cortés, and it was his son Martín who inherited it, although he never lived there.
The former hacienda, dedicated to metal processing, has a clever hydraulic system inside the walls that carried water to the mills for grinding stones and the ponds where the metal was worked to extract silver.
