Ex Convento de San Agustín (Convent)
In 1613, the Augustinians began the construction of a modest temple.
By 1690, the walls of a larger temple had been erected, becoming a clear example of the baroque style that developed in New Spain.
Nothing remains of its exuberant main facade, and only the spaces framed by excellent carvings and moldings in quarry stone remain of its beautiful interior altars.
The convent contains a beautiful courtyard adorned with large moldings on the cornice. The upper cloister has domes in the corners, like skylights.
The ensemble has a well-balanced distribution of its arcades, with beautifully crafted semi-circular arches in quarry stone. Since 1942, it has been the seat of the bishopric of Zacatecas.
Currently, its courtyard is used as a space for socio-cultural events. The former temple is used for temporary exhibitions, as an auditorium, and as a venue for cultural events, conferences, and conventions.
