Ex Convento de San Agustín (Convent)
This building was part of the Augustinian convent, founded in 1576.
There were seven chapels that depended on the Convent. In the 17th century, a church was built, whose altarpiece was classified as one of the best in the province.
In the year 1860, due to the Reform Laws, the Church was suspended from religious worship and had various uses until it was divided.
Currently, it functions as the "Gertrudis Bocanegra" Public Library, and only a part where the public library is housed is preserved. There, the famous mural by Juan O'Gorman is exhibited, showing key elements in Michoacan's history.
Next to it, the "Caltzontzin Theater" was built on the remains of the monastery.
