It was inaugurated in 1987 to foster and promote culture.
It houses some of the most important cultural venues: the Museum of Anthropology and History, the Museum of Popular Cultures, the Museum of Modern Art. The Central Public Library, the Special Volumes Library, and the State Historical Archive are also located here.
