House of the Counts of Heras y Soto

Baroque building from the mid-18th century with facades made of tezontle and carved quarry stone.

The corner niche stands out, displaying a cherub with a basket of fruits resting its left foot on a lion.

One of its vestibules exhibits the original head of the Angel of Independence as it remained after falling during the 1957 earthquake.

The house was commissioned by Adrián Ximénez de Almendral and later belonged to the daughter of the Count of Heras y Soto, from which it derives its name.

Currently, it serves as the headquarters of the Advisory Council of the Historic Center and the Historical Archive of Mexico City.
