Capilla de Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio
Built in the mid-16th century, this chapel once housed a statue of Philip II in a niche.
The statue served not only as an ornament but also as a demonstration of gratitude from the people of Zacatecas to the King.
It has a simple facade with a classical Baroque style. Its arched entrance is framed by columns and surrounded by a stone paneling.
The chapel a second level where an oddly shaped niche holds the image of the Virgin of the Patrocinio flanked by the symbols of the Sun and the Moon.
The interior has a sober neoclassical style.
