Initially dedicated to the Virgin of the Assumption, it is currently dedicated to the Virgin of Candelaria.
The first chapel was built by the Franciscans between 1569 and 1570. In the 18th century, it underwent some modifications, and in 1939 it suffered a collapse. It wasn't until 1994 that it was reconstructed.
It is considered the only surviving indigenous chapel.
