Antiguo Hospital de los Juaninos
A grand building that combines Baroque, Eclectic, and Neoclassical styles.
Inside, there is a main courtyard surrounded by arches on two levels. The upper floor is supported by Tuscan-style quarry columns.
It was commissioned in 1685 by Bishop Ortega y Montañez as the Episcopal Residence, which was later transferred to the Juaninos in the early 18th century to establish the Hospital of San Juan de Dios.
In 1830, Dr. Juan Manuel González Ureña installed the first medical school in the state in this building, and the hospital operated until the Reform era.
En 1866 el edificio se convirtió en hotel y en 1998 el hotel cambió su nombre a Los Juaninos en recuerdo a los monjes que lo utilizaron como hospital.
