Acuario de Veracruz
The aquarium has nine areas that allow you to learn more about the region's fauna.
The Tuxtlas Jungle
The Tuxtlas Jungle invites you to explore the jungle ecosystem of the Tuxtlas region, where you can admire various birds such as toucans and blue and yellow macaws. There is also a boa constrictor and a pleasant series of turtle ponds.
The Freshwater Gallery
The Freshwater Gallery offers a kind of cave with several fish tanks where you can see more than 30 species of fish from the Amazon, Asia, Africa, and North America, as well as some reptiles and mammals from these areas. There is also a pond with koi carp.
The Reef Tank
The Reef Tank is cylindrical with a panoramic view through its 13 acrylic windows, being the largest one measuring 8m long and 3m high. Here you can observe 20 different species from the Veracruz reef region, including cat sharks, groupers, barracudas, and a variety of colorful fish.
The Saltwater Gallery
The Saltwater Gallery consists of 13 tanks of various sizes and includes over 60 species of reef organisms such as fish, reptiles, and invertebrates, mostly native to the Gulf of Mexico. Amid a reef-like decoration, you can see a green moray eel, spiny lobsters, lionfish, blue surgeonfish, and many other species.
The Shark Tank
The Shark Tank houses nurse sharks, tiger sharks, and other species that can be admired from an incredible 6m-long tunnel. If you're adventurous, you can descend into the tank in an acrylic box with a wetsuit. It takes place daily from 11:00 to 14:00 hrs. and from 15:00 to 17:00 hrs.
Manatee Area
Manatee Area is a pleasant space where you can observe these friendly animals.
Penguin Area
Penguin Area showcases a colony of Humboldt penguins from Peru and Argentina.
Kiosks
Another attraction of the aquarium is the kiosks, one about oceans in general and another about the Gulf of Mexico, where cutting-edge technology is used to provide information about these ecosystems.
Jellyfish Tank
There is also an interesting exhibit of 7 different species of jellyfish in tanks specially designed for this type of organism.
Research Center
The Veracruz Aquarium is also a scientific research and dissemination center that promotes respect for the environment and the conservation of the aquatic environment.
