In 1579, the Jesuits began the construction of this temple.

The Temple of the Company of Jesus was originally named San Francisco Javier.

The building suffered significant damage in the earthquakes of the early 17th century, which required restoration. However, in 1711, another earthquake caused the collapse of the vaults and the college.

Later, in 1767, the Jesuit order was expelled from New Spain, and the convent complex was handed over to the Conceptionist nuns. As a result, the temple came under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception.

Due to the implementation of the Reform Laws, the building was abandoned, and the convent and college were divided and sold to private individuals. As a result, many of the spaces are now occupied by shops and warehouses.

The construction features classical elements of Plateresque style. The facade consists of two levels with an entrance flanked by two pairs of columns, highlighting a niche with the sculpture of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The interior of the temple is shaped like a Latin cross with three small chapels. The main altarpiece is made of wood and preserves some of its original forms and gilded covering. The other altarpieces are more recent.
