Biblioteca Pública (Public Library)

A Baroque-style construction dating back to the 17th century. It is built with pink quarry stone in a Latin cross plan.

In what was once the church atrium, there is a pleasant garden with two quarry stone fountains in its corners. Additionally, there are several busts of figures related to the University, such as Manuel Martínez Solórzano and Natalio Vázquez Pallares, adorning this space.

Originally, it was the temple of the Jesuit Conventual Complex. Later, it had multiple uses until 1930 when it became the Public Library of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo.

The library collection consists of almost 23,000 volumes, including works dating from the 15th century to the early 20th century. It is the third largest antique collection in Mexico. These volumes are available to the public and are displayed on a beautiful fine wood bookshelf.

The library's interior is decorated with several murals created by Antonio Silva Díaz, Hollis Howard, S.C. Shoneberg, and R. Hansen.
