The Archaeological Museum of Campeche is located in Fuerte de San Miguel, which used to be the soldiers' quarters, warehouses, kitchen, and powder magazine. 

It is considered one of the best forts from the colonial era and dates back to the 18th century.

It is the largest and most imposing of all the fortifications in the city. It was built by Colonel Juan José de León y Zamorano, who was a lieutenant of the King in the town and port of San Francisco de Campeche. 

This 18th-century building has a pentagonal layout and still preserves some old cannons.  

The museum displays an interesting exhibition of the pre-Hispanic and colonial history of the state. 

artistic level of the pre-Hispanic inhabitants, as well as a splendid collection of jade masks found in Calakmul, and remarkable stone Maya sculptures. 

In the colonial objects rooms, furniture and scenes from everyday life are displayed, along with household items. Additionally, the museum has a collection of ships and weapons.
