Museo y Biblioteca Postal de Filatelia (MUFI), Palacio de Correos

The Postal Philately Museum and Library (MUFI), is housed in a spectacular Florentine-style building made of white marble.

It was built between 1902 and 1907 by the architect Adamo Boari, combining Gothic elements with influences from Venetian Renaissance and Art Nouveau.

It is a four-story building, the top floor of which has a large Venetian-style arcade. All its metallic elements, from the magnificent staircase to the bronze grilles and gates of the public service offices, were manufactured in Florence.

In pre-Hispanic times, this was the site of Cuauhtémoc's wife's residence.

Its collection tells the story of the evolution of postal service from its beginnings, featuring pieces that are now considered works of art.

The museum consists of 6 galleries and two annex rooms. The first gallery showcases beautiful frescoes by the Italian painter Bartolomé Galloti, and in the Oval Room, there are period objects in an office where you can travel back in time to the 1940s.

Galleries 1 and 2 display plans and documents narrating the construction of this incredible building.

Gallery 3 presents the history of the postal service, including the interesting story of the Paynani.

Gallery 4 contains documents and objects from the 16th to the 20th century related to the postal service.

Gallery 5 exhibits objects related to mail carriers, including mailbags, pigeon carriers, and even a motorcycle.

Gallery 6 includes stamps and documents from all eras.
