Museo Regional UJED Ángel Rodríguez Solórzano, Casa del Aguacate (Regional Museum)
It is located in a 19th-century mansion known as the Casa del Aguacate due to the avocado tree that grows in the courtyard.
This architectural work is a typical building of that time with a clear French influence.
The entire construction is made of quarry stone, including the base of the railing that surrounds the building. It has three facades, two double-level lateral facades, and a corner facade with a recessed design, simulating three floors due to the attic located on the top level. All facades have access via a staircase with quarry steps and balustrades.
The interior highlights the wooden finishes, as well as the entire flooring of the property.
It has 14 rooms that narrate the history of the region. One of them covers topics of paleontology, physiography, flora, fauna, and some minerals.
The rooms on the second level exhibit remains from the early cultures of Durango and pieces related to the conquest, independence, the Porfiriato era, the Revolution, and the Cristero War. There is also a space dedicated to the Ethnic Groups of the State (Tepehuana).
Additionally, it has two rooms for temporary exhibitions, a library, an auditorium, and a store where indigenous Tepehuana artisans' folk art can be acquired.
