National Museum of Anthropology (MNA)
A large building designed to house the extensive collection of pre-Hispanic objects gathered for centuries throughout the country.
It contains 26 rooms arranged chronologically and culturally. The museum alternates between indoor and outdoor spaces (a large central courtyard and small gardens), as each of its rooms is a museum of its own that can be visited individually or together.
It is one of the most beautiful museums in the world, with a wide exhibition of pre-Hispanic pieces from all over the country. It houses more than 10,000 original pieces, distributed in eleven Archaeology halls and eleven Ethnography halls.
Among the notable pieces are the Tláloc Monolith, the Sun Stone, the Tizoc Stone, the Colossal Olmec Head 6, the Chac Mool, the Atlantean figure of Tula, and the Mask of Pakal, to mention a few.
Another gem of the museum is the National Library of Anthropology and History, Dr. Eusebio Dávalos Hurtado, the most comprehensive in all of Latin America. In addition to safeguarding a large quantity and variety of books, it also preserves codices, inquisition manuscripts, 19th-century newspapers, incunabula, and recorded testimonies of people who lived through the Mexican Revolution.
