It is housed in a beautiful 19th-century building.

It exhibits pieces from the cultures that have inhabited the territory of Durango and the states of Zacatecas, Sinaloa, Nayarit, and Jalisco.

It consists of seven rooms that contain information about the inhabitants of the Paleo-Indian and Archaic periods, rock art, tools, human remains, objects from the Mesoamerican cultures of Chalchihuites, Guadiana, and Aztatlán, and photographs.
