Museo Arqueológico Guillermo Spratling
The Archaeological Museum was inaugurated in 1976.
It was built in honor of William Spratling, who founded the legendary workshop "Las Delicias" that propelled Taxco to worldwide fame as the silver capital of the world.
William Spratling managed to gather a magnificent collection of reproductions and original pieces, many of which are part of the collection of this attractive museum with three exhibition halls.
Hall 1
It features a building sketch, a chronology of Mesoamerican cultures, and a map illustrating the five cultural areas into which it is divided. It also includes 55 pieces of goldsmithing, four stone sculptures, and archaeological artifacts from the states of Colima, Nayarit, and Guerrero.
Hall 2
It showcases a brief biography of William Spratling and pre-Hispanic objects from different cultures that inhabited the central highlands of Mexico.
Hall 3
It presents the general history of Taxco, told through photographs. There is a space dedicated to silver craftsmanship.
