Centro Cultural Santo Domingo, Ex Convento de Santo Domingo
The cultural complex is located in the Former Convent of Santo Domingo.
This is one of the most important colonial-era convents in Mexico, built from the mid-16th to early 17th century.
This magnificent building remains one of the most spectacular and best-preserved convents in the country. This Dominican enclave covered an area of 40,000 square meters.
It houses the Oaxaca Museum of Cultures; the Néstor Sánchez Public Hemeroteca, with an auditorium for exhibitions, congresses, forums, and concerts; the Fray Francisco de Burgoa Library with a collection of over thirty thousand titles, including volumes published from 1484 to 1940; and the Ethnobotanical Garden with over a thousand species of plants native to Oaxaca. The garden offers guided tours that not only talk about the plants but also their history.
