Casa Rivas Mercado

This is a stunning property of great architectural and historical value that perfectly represents the construction trends of the 19th century.

The house was designed and built by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado, known for creating the Angel of Independence. It is located in one of the oldest and most emblematic neighborhoods in Mexico City.

The building's style is eclectic, and construction began in 1893, taking four years to complete. It resembles an authentic architectural laboratory in which a mixture of styles and elements was used. Seven types of quarry stone were used in its construction, and notable features include the Doric columns and the Arabesque stairs with Renaissance balustrades.

Inside, you can admire some antiques, as well as paintings, books, and various decorative items.

Antonieta Rivas Mercado, the daughter of the renowned architect, grew up in this house. She was a modern woman, artist, writer, patron of the arts, and had connections with Vasconcelos. Unfortunately, she met a tragic end with her weapon at Notre Dame in Paris.

When visiting the property, you will learn about the history of the people who lived there and how it was restored. Guided tours last approximately an hour and a half.

From the terrace located on the highest part of the house, which used to be the architect Rivas Mercado's studio, you can enjoy an exceptional view of the city. The place is surrounded by a pergola and columns with Mayan motifs, some of which are original.

Both the indoor halls and the gardens are available for events.
