Luis Barragán House Museum

A cultural asset inscribed in 2004 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The house, which the great Mexican architect Luis Barragán, Pritzker Prize winner, built for himself in 1947, is considered a key work in the global architectural context of the 20th century.

It is located in Tacubaya, a neighborhood to the west of Mexico City. The house covers 1,162 square meters, including the building and green areas. The structure is made of reinforced concrete and consists of a ground floor and two upper floors.

The architectural ensemble is an exceptional example of the renowned architect's creative work during the post-World War II period.

His work combines aesthetic currents and modern and indigenous artistic elements, resulting in an architectural synthesis that has had a notable influence on contemporary design.

The combination of construction materials, spatial projection, and color management give a unique signature to all his constructions.

It houses not only personal belongings but also incorporates Mexican artwork from the 16th to the 20th centuries and significant collections by Jesús Reyes Ferreira and Miguel Covarrubias.

The spaces that used to be the architect's workshop and studios now allow for exhibitions, conferences, presentations, and other activities.

It is considered one of the most interesting buildings in Mexico City and is the only individual property in Latin America to be recognized by UNESCO.

Currently, the house operates as a museum, and visits can only be made through guided tours for groups.

Luis Barragán, born in 1902 and passed away in 1988, is one of the most influential architects of Mexican modernity. His work is noticeable in contemporary architects, not only visually but also conceptually. Among his notable works are the Faro del Comercio in Macroplaza, Monterrey, the Fountain of Lovers in Atizapán de Zaragoza, and the Ciudad Satélite Towers, among others.
