Templo de San Francisco (Temple)

The building is located in San Francisco Plaza, one of the most typical and photogenic places in San Miguel Allende.

It was built by the Franciscans and has a Churrigueresque-style facade, considered the most beautiful in the city. It features unique stonework where several saints can be distinguished, starting with Saint Francis at the pinnacle, as well as Saint John, the Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Sorrows, and a magnificent crucified Christ.

It has a single tower that is neoclassical in style but also has some Moorish influence. This work is attributed to the famous architect from Celaya, Eduardo Tresguerras.

Adjacent to the church is the convent cloister dating back to the 16th century, which still preserves some mural paintings. In its early days, it was known as the Convent of San Antonio.

Inside, you can admire various styles and several pictorial works. The Chapel of the Third Order stands out.
