It was named after the most outstanding Yucatecan symphonic musician.

Since the early 20th century, it functioned as the "main" theater. In 1914, it operated as a cinema, but it suffered from machinery and facility deterioration. In 1975, it was remodeled and reopened with its current name.

It is currently equipped with modern lighting systems, air conditioning, theater machinery, and a cafeteria. Its large lobby frequently hosts exhibitions of visual artworks.
