The dam covers an area of 365 ha and has a depth of 50 m.
It was constructed in 1934, flooding the valley and covering the small community of San Luís de las Peras, leaving only the church tower and part of the cupola visible above the water. In some seasons you can also see parts of the Taxhima Estate.
You can take tours by boat, kayak or the fun way is to rent a duck-shaped pedal boat or a swan pedal boat. On its shores there are restaurants with trout farms so you can sabor fresh trouts in many different ways.
In its surroundings, you can explore the trails on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. It also has camping facilities and a comfortable hotel.
Be sure to visit the Church of Cristo del Quejido, with many stories and legends.
