Visiting the Necaxa Dam is truly an experience. The dam is surrounded by a lush forest and can be enjoyed with a boat ride, as well as fishing for tilapia and carp.

It was built in 1902 with water from the Necaxa, Tenango, and Xaltepuxtla rivers. It was considered a marvel of Porfirian modernity, as when it began operating in 1905, it was the most powerful hydroelectric plant in the world.

On the dam's shore, there is a hotel, viewpoints, and several establishments offering regional cuisine such as chalupas and mole poblano. There is also a charming flower market where you can purchase colorful ornamental plants.
