It covers 90 hectares of the northern shore of Bacalar Lagoon. It is an excellent place for hiking and mountain biking through the jungle via interpretive trails.
There are also kayak tours through mangroves and small streams that derive from Bacalar Lagoon, where you can spot the local fauna, including birds, deer, tapirs, and crocodiles.
There is a nighttime version of this tour where each traveler wears a headlamp to observe crocodiles on the lagoon's shore.
The central facilities of the park occupy what was a rubber and chicle extraction station half a century ago. The old company store, the administrator's house, and other buildings have been adapted into a restaurant, shop, restrooms, changing rooms, showers, snorkeling equipment rental, telephones, ATM, and soda fountain.
There are also camping areas and sections of the coast for water recreations.
