This space was previously occupied by the Colegio de la Enseñanza, a school for girls.

The construction of this building began in the year 1800.

In the center of the building there is a patio limited by its four corridors with columns and arches that show a clear neoclassical style.

After the Leyes de Reforma (Reform Laws) in the mid 19th century, the building was expropriated and became the headquarters of the Irapuato City Council.

On the stairs, there is a mural titled “Las Revoluciones” (The Revolutions), a work made by a prominent muralist from Irapuato, Salvador Almaraz, although some other artists such as José Oropeza and Manuel Hernández also contributed to the magnificent piece.

The mural is divided into three sections, the first starts from left to right, where it reflects the arrival of the Spaniards to Mexico. In the center you can see Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla who represents the fight for freedom. The third represents Benito Juárez and the Reform Laws. Other prominent figures in Mexican history can also be distinguished such as Aquiles Serdán, Francisco I. Madero, Emiliano Zapata, Francisco Villa and Venustiano Carranza.

The magnificent work continues in the vault and is perhaps the most related to Irapuato since you can see the legend of Eraitzicutzio, a Purépecha tradition, as well as the rivers and lakes of Guanajuato.

It is currently considered one of the most attractive buildings in the city.
