It is the largest lagoon in Cancun, covering an approximate area of three thousand hectares.

It is connected to the Caribbean Sea through two channels, Sigfrido and Nizuc, and within it, there are several scattered small islands and seven lakes.

One of them is Laguna del Amor (Lagoon of Love) due to its heart shape. There is a legend that says if you bathe here, you will turn into a mermaid and in your dreams, you can summon the love of the person you desire.

The crystal-clear waters of the lagoon are surrounded by enormous mangroves that form passageways, which are a delight to explore, and you'll be amazed to find over 200 species of birds and various animal species that inhabit the area. If you're lucky, you might spot a turtle, a crocodile, or even leopard tracks.

It's an ideal place for water sports, and there are several tours that take you on a journey through the entire lagoon, allowing you to wander through the mangrove trails. However, if you're interested in environmental conservation, you can participate in the mangrove care and reforestation campaign by planting some seeds.
