In what used to be the crater of the La Joya Volcano, at the foot of the Cerro del Capulín, today there is a lake that is part of the migratory route from the center of the country, which is why, like the Yuriria Lagoon, it is the habitat of hundreds of birds, especially during the winter.
This lake is additionally surrounded by a mysterious legend, since the inhabitants of the place in pre-Hispanic times said that the lake was dyed red before some misfortune, and it is said that the last time this happened was in 1985, on the eve of the earthquake that hit Mexico City.
It has grills, a bicycle path and a pleasant trail. In its surroundings you can visit the Virgen del Peñasco and Cueva del Diablo.
