Cozumel is an ideal location to enjoy the sun and surf. Wind directions and strengths vary around the island, with winds averaging between 15 and 20 knots.
In Cozumel you can find kite boarding lessons offered by certified kite boarding instructors. There are three-day course suitable for beginners, and instruction is also available for experiences surfers wishing to improve their skills. The lessons can be individual or in a group, but you have to be 18 years and older, have good swimming skills and are in good health.

North of the Downtown
This area is a favorite spot with locals, offers the most consistent winds and seas that are usually calm.
North End of Cozumel
This is a secluded location only accessible by a dirt track. This place offers good kite surfing when the winds are north/northeast to southeast.
The Lagoons
This wonderful lagoons are located on the north side of the island and are accessible by water only. There are good kite-surfing opportunities because of the small islands and sandbars are protecting the lagoons.
Punta Molas Lighthouse
It is located on the northernmost point of Cozumel, and kite boarding here or challenging downwinders for experienced kite boarders, it is not recommended for beginners.
Punta Sur Park
The park is located on the south end of the east coast, is a protected area and accessible only to those having a state permit, can be accessed with an instructor from the park. The currents at Punta Sur are treacherous at times and suitable for advanced kite surfers only.
East Coast
The best option is Playa Bonita. This part of the island includes rock formations, a coral reef and open sandy areas with waves that can reach 3-meter (10 feet) to 4-meter (12 feet).
The winter months, from November to March, offer the best conditions for kite surfing in Cozumel, the temperature fluctuates around 24ºC.
