It's part of the landscape of Atlixco, along with the two colossi of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. At its summit stands the Chapel of San Miguel, dating back to the 18th century.
The hill has a viewpoint that offers an impressive panoramic view of the region.
Furthermore, it is the location of Atlixco's main celebration, held on the last Sunday of September, where the eleven ethnic groups inhabiting the region come together to dance for Quetzalcóatl and Macuilxochitl in the Huey Atlixcáyotl. This festival dates back hundreds of years and represents a syncretism of cultures, as they also dance for Christian saints and embrace redemption in Christ as their emblem.
