A construction dating back to 1837, making it one of the oldest in the city.

Its architecture is based on Gothic and classical ornaments. The walls of the aisles are made of stone and concrete, and the roof is vaulted. This religious building is also known as the Chapel of Carmen.

At the request of Trinidad Húguez de Anza, wife of Don Pascual Iñigo, she asked Bishop Juan Ignacio Quiroz y Mora to build a chapel in honor of the Virgin of Carmen on the estate where they lived. The couple was devoted to this virgin. The request was granted on the condition that it be open to those living outside the estate. In 1887, the couple's granddaughter donated the building to the Franciscan order.
