Templo y Antiguo Convento de San Francisco

The grounds of this temple once housed Emperor Moctezuma's private zoo, known as the House of the Beasts.

After the conquest, Hernán Cortés gave the space to the Franciscan friars, who built a large convent that covered 32,490 square meters, stretching from Bolívar Street to Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas from east to west, and from Av. Madero to Venustiano Carranza from north to south. This convent was the first and largest of its kind in the capital, occupying almost 33 thousand square meters.

On September 15, 1856, a government decree suppressed the convent, and its assets were declared national property. The property was divided and sold to various individuals. The smaller cloister was adapted as a Methodist church in honor of the Holy Trinity.

The current construction dates back to 1710 and features a splendid Churrigueresque facade. The main altar's retablo, a work by Jerónimo Antonio Gil, is also noteworthy.
