Snorkeling in Banco Chinchorro
You can practice snorkeling in the surroundings of Banco Chinchorro, specifically in the shallow areas.
Here you can discover the exciting marine life of the atoll where you can see nurse sharks, snappers, barracudas and turtles.
Additionally, you can visit a sunken ship from the 19th century that is only 5 m (16 ft) deep.
Snorkeling in Mahahual
This is a wonderful experience where you can explore the coast with its colorful barrier where you will surely find a great variety of tropical fish, as well as white, green and hawksbill turtles that tend to congregate in a sandy area off the coast just 3 m (10 ft) from the shore.
In Punta Herrero, 70 km north of Mahahual, you can rent a boat from the local cooperative to get closer to a reef that with a19th century shipwreck that has become the habitat of a large number of of marine life, including paergos, tarpon, barracudas and turtles.
One of the most recommended places is Punta Placer with incredible coral formations.
Snorkeling in Bacalar Lagoon
The Bacalar Lagoon and the cenotes that are near or in the lagoon such as Cenote Azul and Cenote Cocalitos are very good options if you want to snorkel.
