AN IDEAL PLACE FOR PALEONTOLOGY LOVERS

It was founded in 1575 when the conquistador Francisco de Urdiñola established the Hacienda de San Francisco de los Patos here, hence it was known as Villa de los Patos.

Later, its name was changed to General Cepeda in honor of a distinguished fighter from Coahuila against the French, who also became the governor of the state.

Walking through the town, you can observe the old mansions, attractive buildings such as the Municipal Palace and the Church of San Francisco de Asís, as well as beautiful gardens.

Its surroundings are characterized by desert and mountain landscapes full of paleontological pieces from the Cretaceous Era. These can be found on the walls of rock formations, where petroglyphs can be seen, or underground where specimens over 70 million years old have been found.

It is located in the Southeastern Region of Coahuila, 65 kilometers west of Saltillo.
