Rocky Point is a world-renowned destination to have blast fishing, some experts have called the Sea of Cortez the world's greatest fish trap.
Top Fishing Spots in Rocky Point are San Jorge Island, which is made up of a rocky complex that is located in the bay of the same name. Here you can fish cochito, sole, grouper and dorado, as well as large species called "la pescada", which can weigh up to 450 kilos.
The best months to fish are: February, July, August and September. The cochito and the grouper are found all year round. From October to February there are pescada, snapper, drumstick, croaker, sierra and pompano. In April goldfish and sail fish.
The destination has a marina with 14 spaces and a fishermen's union that provides all the services to be able to go fishing. If you looking the get the most out of your fishing experience, the best option is a charter and the harbors all around Puerto Peñasco are full of boats ready to take you to sea.
If you are looking for a traditional fishing experience, all along the coast, you’ll find perfect spots to fish or you can try or the Rocky Point’s piers, either Pelican Point or the Old Port. Triggerfish, corvina, pompano, and mackerel are popular catches from shore.
Beware that you’ll need to be 250 meters (around 800 feet) from any bathers or swimmers. Head to some of the more remote spots up or down the coast and get there early in the morning to find your spot.
