It is a magnificent work of Churrigueresque Baroque, completed in 1749.
The building features an interesting three-story facade adorned with spiral Solomon columns surrounded by stone garlands. Between the columns, there are niches where the images of San Elías and San Eliseo are located.
Inside, the entrance to the Camerín de la Virgen del Carmen stands out. It is made of colored mortar. The gilded altars, except the main one, are among the few that survived in this city after the colonial period when many church decorations were changed to Neoclassical style.
In the main altar, there was a gilded and polished altarpiece that was destroyed in 1824, and the current one was made in a Neoclassical style with quarry stone and marble.
The sacristy houses valuable paintings, and in the choir, there are other works by the famous artist Vallejo dating from the late 19th century.
It is located in Plaza del Carmen, and a part of the old Carmelite convent is still preserved.
