Festivals and Traditions of Mexico
Religious celebrations and festivities have origins dating back to pre-Hispanic times. With the conquest and subsequent evangelization, a unique syncretism occurred, creating a distinctly Mexican way of celebrating various festivals.
There is a wide variety of festivities that highlight the country's cultural and traditional richness, celebrated almost every day of the year in different parts.
Throughout the months, we can find everything from colorful and sometimes irreverent carnivals held in various parts of the country, to deeply religious celebrations like Good Friday, when the Procession of Silence takes place. This can be as solemn as in San Miguel de Allende or as awe-inspiring as in Taxco, with its barefoot, black-clad hooded figures and penitent flagellants carrying bundles of thorny blackberry branches on their backs.
Some celebrations have been named Intangible Cultural Heritage, such as the Day of the Dead, deeply rooted in the cultural life of Mexico's indigenous peoples, or the Ritual Ceremony of the Voladores, which is part of many celebrations in various parts of the country, mainly in Puebla and Veracruz.
Gastronomy and music are fundamental parts of all the celebrations, giving each a special character, as each region in Mexico has different dishes and rhythms. Therefore, when you have the opportunity to enjoy the diverse Mexican festivals, you can see the richness of the country's history and traditions.
We invite you to be part of one or several of these celebrations.
Come and sing, dance, savor, enjoy, and be amazed!!
