Casa Municipal (Municipal House)
Also known as the Palace of Cortés in Coyoacán.
This building served as the first town hall of New Spain until 1524. Later, it was reconstructed by the Dukes of Terranova in the 18th century.
It was named the Palace of Cortés because the mansion's owners held the Marquisate of Valle de Oaxaca, a noble title that once belonged to Hernán Cortés.
The building is a simple construction. Formerly the seat of the Municipal Council, it now serves as the headquarters of the Coyoacán Borough Government.
The Civil Registry Chapel is of interest, decorated with frescoes depicting local history (by Diego Rosales), as well as the mural by the painter Aurora Reyes preserved in the Council Chamber.
